Popular Chinese mythical legend: The Super Kid- Ne Zha (1982)

Every Chinese kid knows this story. This classic film was a part of many Chinese people's happy childhood memories, like Disney's Bambi in the US. There are powerful dragons, Gods, magics, and supernatural formations accompanied by Chinese traditional music and fine hand-drawing art.

少林寺- 电影项目 recommended for Chinese L1 because it is filled with action, and interesting, and represents an important cultural heritage and history, which connects with Buddhism, Martial Arts moralities, the origins of the Shao Lin Kungfu, and the significance of the Tang Dynasty. Learn Chinese Kungfu celebrities and other popular Kungfu Movies. The movie "The Shaolin Temple" (1982) is perfect to teach a bit of history and culture, as well as Buddhist philosophy and morality. "The Journey to the West" 西游记 is one of four Classics of Chinese Literature 四大名著 （1500-1600 BC） The popular story of the Monkey King, and the historical facts of the epic 27 years journey of the Monk Xuan Zang (700 AD)  to India (west) for Buddism Teaching. This project is about the importance and impacts of both the novel, the superhero figure Monkey King, and the historical background. 

It is safe to say that every Chinese person knows it, just like everybody knows Superman and Spiderman in the West.

The 1962's cartoon film "The Havoc of the Heaven" "大闹天宫“ is also a good showcase of Chinese culture and art relating to the Monkey King. See a collection of videos in this playlist.
